    Q:
Should you replace the oil pump when rebuilding the engine or if it has high mileage in 3.0L V6 engine on 2000-2011 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
That said it is advised that one changes the oil pump when one is re-constructing the engine, or if it is high mileage or questionable at best. First, disconnect the oil pan, and then working under the car provide support to the oil pump while disconnecting the pump-to-rear main bearing cap bolt. When the level is lowered, remove the pump and also the pump driveshaft. Whenever there may be a new installation of an oil pump, it is recommended that effort is made to align the pump driveshaft to the shaft of the pump. Position the pump on the engine in such a manner that the hex of the driveshaft in the upper end will fit the lower end of the distributor or the camshaft position sensor shaft as proper mating is necessary for the efficiency of the oil pump. Then, screw in the mounting bolt and make sure that the tightening torque is according to the standard. Last but not the least, reinstall the oil pan and add oil doing the reverse of the removal process.
