However, if crankshaft rear Crankshaft Seal replacement is the only job that is to be done, then it can be done on the car. However, if the Crankshaft Seal is being replaced together with the rear main bearing replacement, then the engine has to be pulled and put on a work stand. First, eliminate the starter, then the transmission should also be taken out. For manual-shift transmissions, gums up the pressure plate, cover assembly, and clutch disc. Then, you need to have the flywheel attaching bolts, flywheel, and the engine rear cover plate out of the way. Two holes need to be drilled on the crankshaft rear Crankshaft Seal with the help of an awl; screws have to be put in the holes and when the seal is to be removed one has to be very cautious as the crankshaft surface may get scratched easily. Before installing a new Crankshaft Seal, you have to clean the Crankshaft Seal recess and also you have to check the condition of the crankshaft rubbing surface when coating a new Crankshaft Seal and the crankshaft with engine oil. Place the seal in the recess with the lip forward and install it with a seal driver and be sure that the tool is used in a straight manner. After this, it is advisable to check on the seal for any signs of damage, then position the engine rear cover plate and fix the flywheel into its position before putting the flywheel bolt which should also be done in sequence and coated with the oil-resistant sealer before being tightened. In the manual shift transmissions, the clutch disc and the pressure plate should be fitted followed by the transmission. If the vehicle has a diesel engine, then the battery should be disconnected, the automotive should be lifted and the transmission and clutch assembly should be removed, then the flywheel and the crankshaft rear cover assembly should be removed. It is mandatory to take out the rear Crankshaft Seal and combine a new one by using a proper tool; it is also necessary to measure the crankshaft wear. Reassemble by fixing the crankshaft rear cover assembly along with the bolts and nut to its respective position, reinstall the clutch as well as the transmission. Lowering the vehicle, reconnect the battery and check in all possible ways for oil leak. Same as 2.3L, remove the battery connection, lift the car, take the transmission and clutch out. Take off the flywheel and oil pan bolts and also the rear seal retainer and gasket. A suitable drift should then be used to remove the seal from the retainer, the new seal should be lubricated and then fitted into the retainer. Reassemble by fixing the oil separator and retainer on the hole of the engine block, tightening the bolts, applying silicone sealant, putting the oil pan back and the flywheel. Last of all, add the clutch assembly as well as the transmission, lower the car off the jacks, add oil to the crankcase and look for any signs of leakage.
