Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle, support it securely on jackstands, and remove the wheel. Remove the brake caliper and disc. Remove the cover from the differential carrier and allow the lubricant to drain into a container. For models equipped with a differential oil cooler, disconnect the differential oil cooler temperature sensor, then remove the oil cooler line fasteners. Use a small screwdriver to pry up the two cooler line retainer clips from the fittings and disconnect the differential oil cooler lines from the rear cover. Remove the lock bolt from the differential pinion shaft and slide the notched end of the pinion shaft out of the differential case as far as it will go, positioning a large screwdriver between the rear axle case and a ring gear bolt to keep the differential case from turning while loosening the pinion shaft lock bolt. Push in the outer (flanged) end of the axleshaft and remove the C-lock from the inner end of the shaft, using a magnet if necessary. Withdraw the axleshaft carefully to avoid damaging the oil seal in the axle housing as the splined end passes through it. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the differential pinion shaft lock bolt to the specified torque, followed by installing the differential cover and refilling the axle with the correct quantity and grade of lubricant.

Install the differential cover and fill the differential with the recommended oil.
