Removal of the drive shafts and drive axle.

Problems with the driveshaft(s) are usually indicated by a noise or vibration while driving the vehicle. A road test should verify if the problem is the driveshaft(s) or another vehicle component. Steps include noting the engine speed at which the problem is most evident, testing the vehicle in different gear ranges, and visually inspecting the driveshaft(s) for damage or imbalance.

Since the driveshaft is a balanced unit, it's important that no undercoating, mud, etc., be allowed to stay on it.

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

Installation is the reverse of the removal steps with the following additions: a) Raise the front of the driveshaft into position, checking to ensure the marks are in alignment. If not, make sure the transmission is still in Neutral, then turn the front wheels to line up the marks. b) Remove the tape securing the bearing cups and install the straps and bolts. Tighten the bolts to the torque. c) On 2011 models, tighten the driveshaft-to-transfer case bolts in a crisscross pattern, to the torque.
