    Q:
How to remove and replace front Axle Shaft and CV Joint on 1993-2011 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure applies only to the models produced up to 1997. First of all, loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels and then safely lift the front part of the car and put it on a jack stand and remove the wheels. Secondly, unbolt the front brake calipers and position them using some wire up and away but, do not overthrow the brake hoses. Move to eliminate the locking hubs, wheel bearings as well as the locknuts. Pull the nuts off the spindle to the steering knuckle but do this gently then strike the spindle gently with a plastic or soft-faced hammer to free it then pull it out. Remove the spindle seat, then with the carrier in position on the left side of the vehicle pull the shaft and joint assembly out of the carrier, tapping the slinger off the shaft with a hammer if required as it requires a press to refit. On the right side, take out the metal clamps both on the shaft and joint assembly and the stub shaft, the rubber boot is placed on the stub shaft, and then, pull the shaft and joint assembly off the splines. When performing the spindle bearing and oil seal, secure the spindle in a padded vise and remove the bearing and oil seal with the help of a slide hammer and puller attachment, clean the spindle bore and put the new bearing into the spindle bore with the manufacturer's mark facing out by using the spindle bearing replacer and driver handle. Same tools are used to set the seal with lip towards the installer and apply high temperature lubricant to the coating. For the shaft and joint assembly universal joint replacement the internal snap-rings should be removed from the U-joint with a screwdriver, the shaft and the yoke should be marked for assembly purposes. The rest of the procedure is carried out in the similar manner as in the case of the driveshaft universal joints. For installation, if the slinger was removed from the spindle, have it pressed on by a machine shop. On the right side of the carrier, position the rubber boot and new metal clamps presented on the stub shaft slip yoke with position of the yoke ears to be correct. Feed the shaft and the joint part through the knuckle on the left side with the splines led into the carrier. Mount the splash shield and then the spindle on the steering knuckle and tighten the two nuts of the spindle to the recommended torque. Last screw in the front wheel bearings and locking hubs, then brake caliper and then put the front wheels and lower the car and tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer recommended torque.

    Q:
How to remove and install the front axle on 4WD Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the front differential on 1991-1994 models, first raise the vehicle and then install jackstands. The driveshaft should be disconnected, brake calipers removed, tie-rod ends detached, and stabilizer bar taken out. The coil spring could be compressed with a floor jack, after which it can be removed and thereafter the shock absorber can be dismantled. Remove the radius arm including its bracket followed by the pivot bolt. While 1995 and later models only require loosening lug nuts to raise the vehicle and remove the wheel(s), caliper, and brake disc. Disconnect the ABS sensor, remove the hub drive axle/nut, and support the lower control arm. Remove the control arm balljoint nut plus stabilizer bar and pry the inner CV joint assembly. Press out the drive axle from the hub then disconnect the front driveshaft. Support the differential, remove mounting bolts, and pull out axle. Put in new circlip, grease differential seal lips before inserting stub shafts. Do not forget to tighten all bolts/nuts properly!

    Q:
How to remove and replace the front CV joint and Axle Shaft on a Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the front wheels, loosen the lug nuts and raise the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove front brake calipers, locking hubs, wheel bearings, and locknuts. Take out the spindle by tapping it and get rid of the spindle seat. The shaft and joint assembly should be pulled out from left side. On the right side, remove the clamps, slide the rubber boot onto the stub shaft and pull out the shaft and joint assembly. For spindle bearing and oil seal replacement, remove the bearing and oil seal with a slide hammer and puller attachment. Clean the spindle bore and install a new bearing and seal. To replace axleshaft assembly universal joint, remove snap-rings, and proceed as for driveshaft universal joints. Press slinger onto spindle, install rubber boot with clamps on stub shaft slip yoke to reassemble. Slide through knuckle shaft and joint assembly engaging splines. Install splash shield, spindle, wheel bearings, locking hubs, brake caliper, and front wheels.

    Q:
How should the axle housing be secured before removal for the 1997 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Place a transmission jack beneath the axle housing and secure the axle housing to the jack with a safety strap or chain. Ensure the axle is secured so it can't fall off the jack, but position the strap or chain so the axle can be tilted.

    Q:
How can the driveaxle assembly be separated from the steering knuckle for the 1998 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Swing the knuckle out, compress the outer CV joint, and pull the driveaxle assembly out of the knuckle. If the driveaxle splines are "frozen" to the hub, use a brass hammer or a two-jaw puller to knock it loose.
