    Q:
How to remove and reinstall the starter motor on 2000-2011 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
On 2001 and later models with 2.3L engines, the left front inner splash shield needs to be removed to gain access to the starter motor. Start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Then, raise the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. If there are protective covers on the starter motor terminals, remove and discard them. Disconnect the wiring from the terminals on the starter motor. While supporting the starter, remove the starter motor mounting bolts. For the lower mounting nut, detach the starter from the engine. For the upper mounting bolt, remove the starter. To reinstall, follow the reverse of the removal process. Tighten the starter bolts to the specified torque. If equipped, replace the starter solenoid terminal protective caps with new ones.

    Q:
How can the starter relay circuit be checked for the 2001 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
On early models, the starter relay circuit can be checked by removing the push-on electrical connector from the relay and using a jumper wire to connect the battery positive terminal to the relay main terminal. If the starter motor operates with the jumper wire, the starter relay is functioning correctly, and the problem may be with the ignition switch, Neutral start switch, starter/clutch switch, or starting circuit wiring.
