    Q:
How do you replace the ignition switch and key lock cylinder on 2000-2011 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is located beneath the steering column where it is fixed by two screws; one large and the other relatively small. Firstly, remove the negative terminal of the battery; and if the car is equipped with the airbag system, remove the positive one as well. Next, take off the squab and the steering column cover and shrouds and pull the electrical connector out of the ignition switch. On some late models, the multi-function switch and electrical connector might have to be removed in order to access the ignition switch. Then, unscrew the ignition with the help of screwdrivers and take it off the column of the car and then disconnect the electrical connector. Installation is the process of reversing the removal process through positioning of the ignition key and switch in the Run positions with the pin on the ignition switch fitted onto the aperture on the steering column before tightening the screws then testing the switch in different positions of the ignition key. Here, on Ignition Lock Cylinder replacement, you need to remove the negative and positive cables on the battery. For 2010 and earlier models, to gain access to the lock you have to take off the steering column lower cover and the shroud and then rotate the steering lock to the Run position. For 2011 models only, both upper and lower steering column covers should be detached while the ignition key must be turned into the run position. In all the models, try to use a 1/8-inch diameter wire, punch, or screwdriver to push in the lock cylinder housing towards the unlocking of the actuator pin while pulling out on the cylinder. Last is installation which is a reversal of the removal procedures that have been outlined here.

    Q:
How do you replace the ignition switch on Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the ignition switch, another matter is to remove the negative battery cable and the positive battery cable if the car is fitted with airbags. Rotate the ignition key lock cylinder as far as possible to the right, by turning it anti-clockwise. There are two panels known as driver side lower instrument panel cover and the reinforcement panel which must be unbolted. The ignition switch electrical connector and, in turn, the switch retaining screws has to be disconnected. Release the ignition switch from the actuator rod and remove the switch out of the car. Make sure the new ignition switch is in the OFF state and then position it on the required position and hook the actuator rod. This part has to be fitted and fixed in place using the tightening of the retaining screws. Last, the other remaining steps are what remains of the installation and as always be sure to check the switch going to lock, start, accessory and make sure it is working properly.

    Q:
How is the key lock cylinder removed for the 2002 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
