1. Set the engine to TDC. 2. Remove the valve cover. 3. Remove the engine front cover. 4. Remove the timing chain and camshaft sprockets. 5. Remove both camshafts. 6. Remove a single tappet with a valve lapping tool or a magnet. 7. Note the thickness of the tappet face which is engraved underneath. If the marking is missing or illegible, use a micrometer to establish its thickness. 8. Use liberal amounts of oil on the replacement tappets when installing them. 9. After all replacement tappets are installed, reassembly may begin.
