Engine health depends on the replacement of spark plugs. For most engines, we recommend a 60,000-mile interval. You'll also need a spark plug socket, extensions, and a gap gauge for this job. After allowing the engine to cool down check the new plugs for defects and adjust their gaps. Remove one plug wire at a time, blow away any debris, and use the socket to remove the plug. A chart will help you compare its condition with others. Tighten the new plug and apply silicone compound to the boot. Also, inspect wires for arcing or sparks and replace any that are damaged. The wires should be installed starting with the number one cylinder in their correct order of arrangement. Damaged wires should be replaced as they hinder fitment or develop corrosion problems.

Use a removal tool or grab the wire boot, twist it slightly, and pull the wire free. Do not pull on the wire itself.

Place the spark plug socket over the plug and remove it from the engine by turning in a counterclockwise direction.
