For spark plug wires use silicone dielectric compound inside each boot before putting them back in place. Change wires when you put in new spark plugs. If the engine is running, visually inspect for arcing or sparks in darkness and a well-ventilated area. Do not touch any moving parts of the engine. Inspect one wire after another beginning with cylinder number one. Mark every wire to return it to the same position later on. Disconnect and remove all wires from the spark plug then reattach them tightly. Wipe wire with a wet rag soaked in solvent then examine it for burns, cracks, or other damage signs.
