    Q:
How do you disconnect and remove the upper control arm, and what components should be inspected during this process for the 2006 Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
    A:
To disconnect the upper control arm from the steering knuckle, remove the cotter pin from the balljoint castle nut, loosen the nut a few turns (without removing it), use a small puller to break the balljoint loose from the knuckle, and then remove the nut. Afterward, remove the upper control arm pivot bolts and nuts. During this process, inspect the pivot bolt bushings for wear. If they are worn, the control arm needs replacement. Also, inspect the upper balljoint seal. If it's leaking, replace the control arm, as the balljoint itself is not serviceable.

    Q:
What precautions and strategies should be taken when dealing with stubborn fasteners, and what safety measures are important when working on the suspension system for the 2004 Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
    A:
When dealing with stubborn fasteners due to rust or corrosion, use penetrating oil, wire brushes, and caution. Strategies like applying a sharp blow with a hammer, heating the fastener area, or using breaker bars can help. However, exercise caution to prevent thread damage or fire hazards. Replace difficult-to-unscrew fasteners with new ones. For safety, use reliable jackstands and prefer a hydraulic floor jack for lifting and supporting components during various operations.
