Taking off the cables, always start with the negative cable/last with positive terminal, in order to avoid short-circuiting the battery with the tool, used for loosening the clamps on the terminals; even when reconnecting the cable for the positive terminal, start with the negative terminal one. Remove the wiring connectors from the battery, follow each wire to the opposite end and remove them as well paying attention to the path of each wire with a view of reinstating them later. If removing any of the old cables, carry them to the store as it is imperative that they should be changed with the same type of cables. Scrub the threads of the solenoid or ground connection with a wire brush to remove the rust and apply a wipe of battery terminal corrosion inhibitor or petroleum jelly to it in order to avoid future build up. Connect the cable to the solenoid or ground connection and put a tight nut bolt on the terminal. It is important to check that a new cable to the battery is not stretched before fixing it to the battery post then grounding first insert the positive cable to the positive battery post then the ground cable to the negative post.
