The lifters can be removed using a magnet and must be stored in a divided and marked container for reassembly.

9. Remove the camshaft sprockets, locking the camshaft in position with a special tool before loosening the sprocket bolt. CAUTION: Don't mix up the sprockets; make an identification mark on each sprocket using paint for correct reassembly. 10. On the right cylinder head, remove the camshaft cap bolts, loosening them only 1/4-turn at a time. 11. On the left cylinder head, repeat the process for the camshaft cap bolts. 12. Remove the caps and lift the camshaft off the cylinder head, tapping lightly if necessary. 13. Don't mix up the camshafts or any components; they must all go back in the same positions. 14. Repeat this procedure for the remaining camshaft.

Before removing the camshafts, check the valve clearances.

If the camshaft lobe lift is less than specified, it indicates cam lobe wear has occurred, and a new camshaft should be installed.
