Rotate the crankshaft 600-degrees (1-2/3 turns) clockwise, until the keyway is in the 11 o'clock position.

Install the left chain guide (if removed). Install the timing chain. Install the right chain guide. Install the timing chain tensioner and tighten the fasteners. Remove the pin to release the tensioner to engage the chain guide. Install the camshaft alignment tool. Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts while holding the camshafts in place with a wrench.

Remove the VCT assembly mounting bolts from the rear cylinder head, then the front cylinder head.

Once the crankshaft position sensor has been removed, it must be aligned using special tool no. 303-1521.

Remove the power steering hose bracket fastener and bracket from the bottom of the cover.

89. If the primary chain gear and its plate were removed, clean the mounting surface and the block, then install the sprocket and plate with a new gasket. Prepare the primary chain tensioners by pushing in the release button and compressing the plunger until a nail or large paper clip can be inserted to hold the plunger. 90. If the secondary timing chain tensioners were removed, they cannot be reused. New tensioners must be installed. 91. The tensioner is installed to the correct depth when you hear a snap. Install the tensioner shoe. The plastic clip can now be removed with pliers. 92. Align the colored links with the marks on the VCT units and install the chain.

Remove the right-side VCT units first.

Do not rely on the camshaft alignment tool to hold the camshafts while tightening the camshaft sprocket bolts. Tool and engine damage may occur.
