    Q:
How do you remove and install Flywheel on Ford Thunderbird? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the transmission. For manual transmission models, take off the pressure plate and clutch disc. Remove the mounting bolts; for automatic transmission driveplates, insert a prybar through a hole to prevent the crankshaft from turning while loosening or tightening the bolts. For manual transmission models, use a large screwdriver against the starter ring gear to keep the crankshaft from turning. Pull straight back on the flywheel/driveplate to detach it from the crankshaft, being prepared for its weight. The rear cover plate can be removed if necessary. Inspect the rear oil seal and replace it if needed. Flywheels and driveplates must not be interchanged between supercharged and non-supercharged engines. If a driveplate with balance rivets needs replacement, install new balance pins or rivets in the same locations as the original. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the driveplate is mounted with the torque converter pads facing the transmission. The staggered bolt holes allow for only one correct fit. Use Ford sealant with Teflon or an equivalent on the bolt threads and tighten them to the specified torque in a criss-cross pattern.
