    Q:
How to remove and install Steering Knuckle on Ford Fusion? Posted by Customer
    A:
When reassembling all bolts used for suspension should be replaced with new ones. Start with the tightening of the wheel lug nuts, lifting of the car and putting on the jackstand before finally removing the wheel. Subsequently, it is necessary to take off the driveaxle hub nut. Go ahead to unbolt the brake caliper with the hose still connected, the caliper mounting bracket and the brake disc. Loosen the brake hose from the strut and suspend the caliper off the coil spring using a wire so that there will not be undue force on the hose. Take off the ABS wheel speed sensor from the car, as well as untighten the bolt at the harness. Disengage the tie-rod end with the steering knuckle arm of the vehicle. To protect the inner CV joint from damage position a block of wood on top of the lower control arm Then remove the lower control arm ball joint(s) on the steering knuckle. Take off the driveaxle nut or the hub nut and push the driveaxle through the hub and when doing this make sure you support one end of the driveaxle with a wire. On the 2012 and earlier models, remove the upper control arm ball joint from the steering knuckle and remove the knuckle, on the models 2013 and higher, lower the strut and detach it from the steering knuckle before removing the knuckle. For installation, guide the knuckle and hub assembly into position placing the driveaxle into the hub. Screw the balljoints to the knuckle and tighten the nuts to the standard torque of your vehicle and do ensure that every suspension bolt is replaced by a new one. Fit the tie-rod end to the steering knuckle arm and screw down the nut to the recommended torque. Note that before tightening the control arm fasteners, one has to raise the outer end of the control arm with a floor jack to have a normal ride height where the center of the wheel hub should be 15.8 inches below the center of the fender lip. Put the brake disc over the hub and tighten the two disc-locating bolts, and fit the caliper. This is the Special nut that is put on the driveshaft/axle hub applying the torqued value given. Last but not the least, fix the wheel and lug nuts, then lower the car and finally tighten the lug nuts to the recommended torque. Ideally it is necessary to check the front-end alignment and make some necessary adjustments if there is a problem with this existing alignment.
