    Q:
How do you properly handle the latch and cable installation and removal process on Ford Expedition? Posted by Customer
    A:
To reinstall the latch assembly, first scribe a line around the latch for alignment. For Navigator models, remove the hood latch handle and cable assembly from the latch. For all models, remove the latch retaining bolts securing it to the radiator support, using the scribed line as a guide. To adjust the hood latch, loosen the retaining bolts, reposition the latch, retighten the bolts, and check the fit by closing the hood. On Pick-up and Expedition models, disconnect the hood release cable by disengaging it from the back of the latch assembly. The installation process is the reverse of removal, ensuring the latch is adjusted so the hood engages securely when closed, with the hood bumpers slightly compressed. To disconnect the hood release cable, detach it from the latch assembly, then attach a piece of stiff wire to the end of the cable and follow it back to the firewall, detaching all retaining clips. In the passenger compartment, remove the fuse panel cover, then the two release lever mounting bolts to detach the hood release lever. Pull the cable and grommet rearward until the wire is visible, ensuring the new cable has a grommet attached, then replace the old cable with the new one. From the engine compartment, pull the wire back through the firewall, and complete the installation in reverse order, pushing on the grommet from the passenger compartment to seat it correctly in the firewall.
