    Q:
How to remove and install the ignition lock cylinder on Mercury Grand Marquis? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before proceeding to the removal of the ignition lock cylinder it is important that the cable of the negative terminal of the battery be disconnected. For the models from 1988 through 2006 turn the lock cylinder with the Run position and then the 118-inch punch to the hole located at the bottom of the casting which is around the lock cylinder. Press the punch in a direction opposite to the direction the lock cylinder is being pulled out in order to take out the lock cylinder from the column housing. To get to the steering column switch circuit grounds for 2007 and later models, first, the tilt wheel handle and shank should be unbolted from the steering column, and all the steering column covers should be detached. Before deployment of the shift lever, position the gear shift selector boot aside, insert the ignition key into the lock cylinder then rotate it to the ACC position. Unlock the Passive Anti-Theft system locking tabs and move the PATS transceiver to see the lock cylinder release pin hole. Push a pin into the release hole and with it locked and pressed downwards, the lock cylinder is released from the steering column. For installation, turn the lock cylinder to the RUN or ACC position and at one and the same time push the retaining pin and insert it into the hole in the lock cylinder housing. Make a sure that the cylinder slide until it fits properly into the interlocking washer then turning the key anticlockwise in order for the retaining pin to ping out. Last, twist the lock to see if it can work in all the positions right and when you are through reverse the procedure of removal.

    Q:
How do you remove and install the ignition lock cylinder on Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the terminal end of the battery's negative wire, and in cars with air bags, the positive battery cable as well. Slide the key into the lock cylinder and rotate it to an anti-clockwise position, which corresponds to Run. Utilize a small scribe or punch and then push down on the retaining pin through the hole of the lower steering column cover and when doing so, apply a pulling force on the lock cylinder. If there is no hole in the lower steering column cover, then the cover has to be taken off. When installing the lock cylinder, one must press the retaining pin in and fit the lock cylinder over the steering column such that it fits properly and the retaining pin is engaged then turn the key to the lock position. As a last test, check the lock cylinder in each key position it should work properly.
