Q:
How do you remove and install the oil pan on Lincoln Continental Overhead valve (OHV)engines? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the oil pan, begin by disconnecting the battery cable from the negative terminal and removing the air cleaner assembly. Take off the fan shroud, disconnect the oil level dipstick and oil level sensor switch, and if present, detach the vacuum solenoids from the firewall. Lower the exhaust crossover pipe and remove the exhaust pipe section. Drain the engine oil, remove the oil filter, and disconnect the shift linkage. Disconnect the transmission cooler lines, detach the torque converter cover, and remove the starter motor. Disconnect fuel lines, steering flex coupling, and steering gear bolts. Loosen transmission mount nuts, remove front engine mount through bolts, lift the engine slightly with a jack, place wooden blocks between mounts and subframe, and remove the oil pan mounting bolts. Carefully separate the pan from the block using a rubber mallet or wood block and hammer. Remove the oil pump and pick-up tube fasteners, rotate the crankshaft, and slip the oil pan out. For installation, clean mating surfaces, check for pan flange distortion, and install the new gasket or gaskets with RTV sealant. Attach the oil pump, position the pan against the block, and tighten bolts in a spiral pattern. Complete the remaining steps in reverse, start the engine, and check for oil leaks.

Q:
How do you remove and install the oil pan on Lincoln Continental Overhead cam(OHC) engine? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the oil pan, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable and draining the engine oil, followed by the removal of the oil filter. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifolds, supporting the exhaust pipe with mechanics wire to prevent it from falling. Remove the section of exhaust pipe between the manifolds and converters after disconnecting it, taking precautions as it may fall. Proceed to remove the fan shroud mounting bolts, position the shroud over the fan, and then remove the starter motor. Remove the reinforcement brackets on both sides of the engine block and loosen the nuts holding the transmission mount to the crossmember. Remove the through bolts from the front engine mounts, and using a jack under the oil pan, raise the engine to provide clearance for oil pan removal. Lower the engine onto a wood block and remove the oil pan mounting bolts, carefully separating the pan from the engine block. Remove the oil pump pick-up tube/screen bolts, allowing the pick-up to drop into the oil pan, and maneuver the pan out from between the subframe and engine. For installation, clean and inspect components, replace the O-ring on the pick-up tube if necessary, place the oil pan gasket on the oil pan, and reinstall the pan and pick-up tube to the engine. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque in a spiral pattern. Complete the installation steps in reverse, ensuring all traces of old gasket material are removed, the mating surfaces are clean, and the oil pan is securely fastened. Finish by filling the engine with the correct oil, starting the engine, and checking for oil leaks at the oil pan.
