    Q:
How to remove and install the crankshaft pulley in four cylinder engine on Lincoln MKX? Posted by Customer
    A:
When the crankshaft pulley is loose, so is the crankshaft sprocket, the engine thus being out of time. A lot of careful attention should be paid to retiming the engine, which must be done strictly in accordance with all the necessary steps of installation in order to prevent severe damage to the engine. Two special tools are required: the camshaft position tool no. 303-1565 for pre-2018 Saturn Sky or the no. 303-1686 for 2019 Saturn Sky and the timing pin #303-507. Firstly, the drivebelt should be undid and the fasteners of the right driveaxle intermediate shaft bracket. For 2015 and later models use the service tool no 303-1686 for the 2014 use models or any for the 2014 and earlier models position the engine and set it to TDC using the relevant tools. Disconnect both camshaft position sensors so getting a view of the camshaft trigger wheels; insert the service tools in the sensor's opening. Tighten the pulley bolt with a torque wrench to a maximum of 300 N.m while holding the crankshaft non-rotating, you will need a strap wrench and an impact gun to remove it. Upon the elimination of the pulley and diamond washer, place a new diamond washer on the crankshaft, apply a thin layer of clean engine oil to the front seal, then place the crankshaft pulley. For 2014 and earlier models, screw in the CKP sensor alignment tool and put a new pulley bolt and for 2015 and later models align the pulley with the guide hole and tighten bolt. Cautiously, but progressively, torque the pulley bolt without the use of the impact gun; uncouple the timing pin, and also, elimination of all the tools used for alignment purposes. Turn the engine in a clockwise direction 2 full revolutions feeling for any resistance and arrive at TDC once again. Place the timing pin into the cylinder block, check the position of the cam shafts using the tool and ensure that the correct engine timing is gotten to. Last, eliminate all the applied alignment tools and bolts, put the timing pin plug back into its proper place, as well as put back all the other components which were removed in the previous steps.

    Q:
How to remove and install the crankshaft pulley and front Crankshaft Seal in V6 engine on Ford Edge? Posted by Customer
    A:
If you need to get rid of the components, begin by loosening the cable connected to the negative terminal. Turning to the right side of the front part of the car, undo the lug nuts of the right front wheel, lift the car and place it on two jackstands and then detach the wheel. Then, remove the fender splash shield, as well as unbolt and dispense with the drivebelt. For the 2015 and later models support it with a floor jack under the engine and interposing a piece of wood between the jack head and the oil pan to lift the engine slightly so that the pressure is off the front engine mount so as to free the mount and lower the engine to this position whereby the crankshaft pulley will be fully exposed. Remove the crankshaft pulley by using a two-pin spanner to fix the crankshaft pulley while removing the bolt that retains it then, using a three-jaw puller to remove the crankshaft pulley, while paying attention to the type of adapter to be used so as not to damage the crankshaft. Take out the seal of the timing chain cover using a seal puller; it is very important to note the thickness and the position of the seal for a replacement. During installation of this assembly, one has to look for damage on the front cover and pulley seal surface and in the process of doing this, correct as required. Remove the old seal and lubricate the new seal with clean engine oil and then place it on the timing cover with the help of a seal driver provided that the lip of the seal should be inside. Position the keyway of the pulley on the crankshaft key to install the pulley with a pulley installation tool using a pulley bolt and it is suggested that the bolt should be a new one tightened to the recommended torque. Replace the rest of the parts in the reverse manner, then fasten the wheel lug nuts, join the battery terminals, and start the car to determine if there are any leakage around the motor.

    Q:
What caution should be taken when using a three-jaw puller for the 2013 Lincoln MKX? Posted by Customer
    A:
Be sure to use the proper adapter on the end of the crankshaft to prevent damage to the threads or end of the crankshaft. Also, the jaws of the puller must grasp the hub of the pulley, not the outer diameter.
