For front drive axle removal, first, loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle on jack stands, and remove the wheel. On 2014 and earlier models, the right-side drive axle connects to the intermediate shaft, which is mounted at the back of the engine block. On 2015-2018 models and 2019 FWD models, the right-side drive axle and intermediate shaft form a single unit mounted with a retaining strap. On 2019 AWD models, the intermediate shaft is attached to the transfer case, and the right-side drive axle connects to it. To remove the drive axle, first, remove the drive axle/hub nut while applying the brakes. Disconnect the brake hose bracket and wheel speed sensor wiring harness from the shock absorber. Remove the lower ball joint nut and bolt and separate the lower control arm from the steering knuckle. Use a drive hub remover to separate the drive axle from the hub, and secure the knuckle assembly out of the way with wire. On 2014 and earlier models, for the right-side drive axle, strike the inner face of the inner CV joint with a brass drift. On 2015-2018 models and 2019 FWD models, remove the support bearing retaining strap nuts and pull out the right-side axle assembly. For 2019 AWD models, use a prybar to free the end of the drive axle from the intermediate shaft. For the left-side drive axle, use a drive axle remover or pry the inner CV joint out of the transaxle. Carefully support the CV joints and remove the drive axle from the vehicle. To install a new drive axle, replace the spring clip at the inner end, lubricate the seals, and insert it into the differential or intermediate shaft. Ensure the spring clip locks in place, and for the left-side drive axle, position the clip gap at 6 o'clock for easier insertion. Apply grease to the outer CV joint splines, secure the knuckle assembly, and connect the lower control arm. Seat the drive axle with the old drive axle/hub nut, tighten it while preventing rotation, then replace it with a new nut, tightening within five minutes of initial threading. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts. For intermediate shaft removal on 2014 and earlier models, remove the catalytic converter support bracket bolts and nuts, then the bearing support bolts/nuts to slide out the intermediate shaft. Check the support bearing for smooth operation. On 2019 models, remove the intermediate shaft-to-transfer mounting bolts and O-ring, inspect the bearing, and replace as needed. Installation involves reversing the removal steps, ensuring proper torquing of fasteners. For rear drive axle removal on AWD models, block the front wheels and remove the rear wheel, wheel speed sensor, brake caliper, and brake disc. Remove the drive axle/hub nut and use a drive hub remover to separate the drive axle from the wheel hub. On 2011 and later models, remove the hub and bearing assembly and rear knuckle. Pry out the inner end of the drive axle from the differential and remove it. For installation, replace the spring clip, apply grease to the seal area, and insert the drive axle into the differential, ensuring the spring clip locks. Install the hub and bearing assembly, securing the drive axle with a new drive axle/hub nut. Tighten the nut with the brake applied, remove and discard it, and replace with a new nut, tightening it promptly. Complete the installation, install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts.
