    Q:
How to remove a front drive axle on Ford Edge? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the front drive axle, loosen lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and remove the wheel. On older models, the axle connects to the intermediate shaft at the back of the engine block. On newer models, the axle and shaft form a unit with a retaining strap. On AWD models, the shaft is attached to the transfer case. Remove the axle/hub nut, disconnect brake hose and speed sensor, and separate the lower control arm. Use a hub remover to separate the axle from the hub. For older models, strike the inner CV joint. For newer models, remove the support bearing strap. For AWD models, use a prybar. Remove the left-side axle by prying the inner CV joint. Install a new axle by replacing the spring clip, lubricating seals, and inserting it. Grease the outer CV joint, secure the knuckle assembly, and connect the control arm. Tighten the axle nut and install the wheel. For intermediate shaft removal, remove support bracket and bearing bolts. Check the bearing. On newer models, remove mounting bolts and O-ring. Install by reversing steps. For rear axle removal on AWD models, remove wheel, sensor, caliper, and disc. Remove axle/hub nut and use a hub remover. On newer models, remove hub assembly and knuckle. Pry out the axle from the differential. Install by replacing the spring clip, applying grease, and inserting the axle. Install the hub assembly and secure with a new nut. Complete the installation and tighten lug nuts.

    Q:
What steps are involved in removing the drive axle from the 2014 Lincoln MKX? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the drive axle: Remove the drive axle/hub nut while applying the brakes. Disconnect the brake hose bracket and wheel speed sensor wiring harness from the shock absorber. Remove the lower ball joint nut and bolt to separate the lower control arm from the steering knuckle. Use a drive hub remover to separate the drive axle from the hub, and secure the knuckle assembly out of the way with wire. Depending on the model, follow specific instructions: On 2014 and earlier models (right-side drive axle), strike the inner face of the inner CV joint with a brass drift. On 2015-2018 models and 2019 FWD models (right-side drive axle), remove the support bearing retaining strap nuts and pull out the right-side axle assembly. On 2019 AWD models (right-side drive axle), use a prybar to free the end of the drive axle from the intermediate shaft. For the left-side drive axle, use a drive axle remover or pry the inner CV joint out of the transaxle. Carefully support the CV joints and remove the drive axle from the vehicle.
