    Q:
How to remove and install the multi-function switch, steering column control switch, steering column control module, and heated steering wheel module on Lincoln MKX? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, it is necessary to take off the knee bolster trim panel, knee bolster, and the steering column covers. After that, release the multi-function switch retaining screws and pull it out or take out the multi-function switch for replacement. For 2014 and earlier models there is a hole into which a proper tool needs to be inserted and a push button on the other side of the knob to unlock the key lock cylinder. For the 2015 and later models if the vehicle is so equipped remove the turn signal switch next to the multifunction switch Torx screws and then pull the multifunction switch off the steering column. It all comes to removal but in the opposite order. For the turn signal switch, remove the two steering column covers, turn the steering wheel 90 degrees counterclockwise, take out the switch mounting screws, then the two retaining tabs, and the switch is detached from the column; the procedure to install it is similar to that of removing it. The Steering Column Control Module gathers inputs from many turn signal switches, and transmits data signals to another module, besides dealing with adjustable pedals. To replace the SCCM, download information from the original module and install it into the replacement module using the proper scanned and diagnostic tool. It is done by first removing the steering column covers and the steering wheel, then by disconnecting the electrical connectors from the SCCM, the upper and lower fasteners are released, the bottom of the SCCM retaining clip is pulled down, and the SCCM is slid off the steering column, while the installation is the reverse of the above. The Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) is located behind the driver knee bolster trim panel on the floor, and change of the module requires programming of the new one and this involves scanning which requires good tools. Begin as follows: remove driver side knee bolster trim panel, and disconnect the electrical connector from the HSWM, and remove the fasteners , and installation would involve; reverse procedure and would require setting with reconfigured in a qualified repair facility.
