    Q:
How do you remove and adjust the accelerator cable on carbureted engine of Lincoln Mark VII? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the accelerator cable, start by prying the cable end off the throttle lever using a small screwdriver. Then, loosen the accelerator cable locknut and remove the cable from the bracket assembly. Next, detach the screws and clips retaining the lower instrument trim panel on the driver's side and remove the trim piece. Pull the cable end out and up from the accelerator pedal recess. To disconnect the cable at the firewall, remove the cable retainer bracket bolts and push the cable assembly through the firewall from inside the passenger compartment. For installation, reverse the removal steps and ensure that flexible components are not routed within two inches of moving parts. Operate the accelerator pedal to check for any binding condition. Apply sealant around the accelerator cable at the engine compartment side of the firewall to prevent water from entering the passenger compartment if necessary. There is no specific adjustment for these types of accelerator cables, but it may be necessary to adjust the kickdown cable for the automatic transmission.

    Q:
How to remove and install the accelerator cable on Lincoln Mark VII fuel-injected engine? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the accelerator cable on 1996 and later models, start by removing the air intake duct. Detach the accelerator cable from the throttle lever and remove the cruise control cable. Separate the accelerator cable from the bracket and pull it out from the accelerator pedal recess. Disconnect the cable clips on the intake manifold and valve cover, and remove the cable through the firewall. To install, follow the reverse steps, ensuring correct cable routing. Apply sealant around the cable at the firewall to prevent water ingress. Adjust the freeplay at the pedal by loosening the locknut on the cable bracket.

    Q:
How to adjust the Throttle Cable for Lincoln Continental? Posted by Customer
    A:
To adjust the linkage at the carburetor for models from 1980 to 1986, start by removing the air cleaner. Then, release the choke fast-idle cam so that the throttle lever is at the idle stop. Next, turn the linkage lever adjusting screw counterclockwise until the end is flush with the lever face. After that, turn the screw clockwise to obtain 0.005-inch clearance between the end of the screw and the throttle lever. Turn the screw clockwise three full turns, or one turn if limited. Adjust the idle speed and verify that the linkage lever and throttle lever contact each other with the throttle lever in the idle stop position. For the linkage adjustment at the transmission, if adjusting the carburetor linkage screw is not possible, adjust the length of the TV control rod assembly. Loosen the 8mm bolt on the TV control rod sliding trunnion block and remove dirt and corrosion from the control rod. Push up on the lower end of the TV control rod to hold the carburetor linkage lever against the throttle lever, and then force the TV control lever on the transmission against an internal stop while maintaining pressure. Tighten the trunnion block bolt and verify that the throttle lever is at the idle stop. For 1987 and later models, the TV cable and linkage control various transmission functions. To adjust, remove the air cleaner assembly and inlet tube, pry the grooved pin on the cable assembly out of the grommet on the throttle body lever, push the white locking tab out, ensure the plastic block slides freely on the notched rod, hold the throttle lever against the idle stop, and push the grooved pin into the grommet on the throttle lever. Finally, install the air cleaner assembly.
