    Q:
How to check and replace the engine-driven fan and fan clutch on Lincoln Town Car? Posted by Customer
    A:
The engine-driven fan is checked by inspecting the fan blades for cracks and damage, checking for symptoms of fan clutch failure such as noise, looseness, vibration, and fluid leaks, and testing for excessive bearing play by rocking the fan back and forth. The fan should turn freely when the engine is cold. If there are substantial fluid leakage or deformed bi-metal spring in the clutch assembly, or if the fan turns too easily, the fan clutch should be replaced. Removal and installation involve disconnecting the lower radiator hose and removing the fan shroud bolts to access the fan and clutch assembly. The fan clutch is loosened or unbolted from the water pump, and the drive belts are removed from the water pump pulley on some engines. The fan assembly is unbolted from the water pump, and the fan clutch can be removed from the fan blade assembly for replacement. For electric fans in later models, operation is controlled by the power train control module and relays. Continuous fan operation may indicate a fault with the relays or the coolant temperature sensor. To check the electric fan, the electrical connectors are disconnected, and voltage and ground continuity are tested at the fan connector. Removal of the electric fan assembly involves disconnecting the electrical connector and removing the fan assembly and shroud as a unit, then removing the fan blade from the motor.

    Q:
How can you test the electric cooling fan motor, and what steps should be taken if it doesn't operate during the test for the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria? Posted by Customer
    A:
To test the fan motor, unplug the electrical connector and use fused jumper wires to connect it directly to the battery. If the fan doesn't operate, replace the motor.

    Q:
What steps should be taken to ensure the proper functioning of the mechanical cooling fan blades for the 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis? Posted by Customer
    A:
With the engine off and cold, ensure that the fan blades turn freely by hand. Reconnect the battery cable, start the engine, let it reach normal operating temperature, and then turn it off and disconnect the cable again. Check if there's more drag when turning the fan by hand. Replace the fan clutch if necessary.
