To begin the heater core removal procedure, you should first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and drain the cooling system. Then, disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet tubes, and plug the heater core tubes to prevent coolant spillage.

To remove the heater core, begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable and draining the cooling system while disconnecting the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet tubes. Plug the heater core tubes to prevent coolant spillage. Remove three nuts below the windshield wiper motor and one nut from the upper left side corner of the evaporator case to release the plenum from the firewall. Disconnect two vacuum supply hoses or the left side bulkhead connector, and push them into the passenger compartment. Then, remove various interior trim parts, including instrument panel trim moldings, lower instrument trim panel insulators, upper and lower steering column covers, and the reinforcement brace under the steering column. Loosen the left and right side door sill plates, remove cowl trim panels, and take out the instrument panel retaining bolts. Lower the steering column, support it securely, and remove the instrument panel to cowl retaining screws. Carefully pull the instrument panel back without disconnecting electrical connectors, remove the cross body brace, and disconnect the wiring harness from the temperature blend door actuator and temperature control sensor tube. Disconnect the vacuum jumper harness and vacuum hose, and remove the floor air distribution duct. Then, remove two nuts from the plenum's lower edge, move the plenum rearward to clear the heater core tubes and stud, and carefully pull it out from behind the instrument panel. Finally, remove the heater core cover screws and extract the heater core and seal from the plenum assembly. To install the new heater core, reverse the removal steps accordingly.
