Mercury YF1Z-6V049-BARM Kit - Remanufactured Cylinder Head

Install the heads and new head bolts, then tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

Refer to the appropriate section and remove the intake manifold.

1. Scrape all traces of old gasket material and sealing compound off the head gasket and sealing surfaces. 2. Remove built-up scale from coolant passages. 3. Use a stiff wire brush to clean various holes. 4. Run a tap into threaded holes to remove corrosion. 5. Clean rocker arm pivot stud threads with a wire brush. 6. Clean the cylinder head with solvent and dry it thoroughly.

Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system.

If the head was sent out for valve servicing, the valves and related components will already be in place.

The engine must be completely cool when the heads are removed. Failure to allow the engine to cool off could result in head warpage.

Drain the cooling system, including removing the engine block drain plugs.

Shims can be added under the springs to correct it.

Check the spring retainers and keepers for obvious wear and cracks. Any questionable parts should be replaced with new ones.

Remove the alternator and bracket.

Check for nicks, deep scratches, and other damage. If damage is slight, it can be removed with a file; if excessive, machining may be necessary.

Remove the drivebelts.

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. 2. Drain the cooling system. 3. Remove the engine from the vehicle and mount it on an engine stand. 4. Remove the intake manifold. 5. Label and disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors. 6. Remove the exhaust manifolds. 7. Remove the drivebelt and the drivebelt tensioner. 8. Remove the rocker arms and valve lash adjusters.

First hand tighten all bolts, then tighten them in five stages while following the proper sequence.
