    Q:
What are the troubleshooting steps for electric rear view mirrors that are not working properly on Mercury Mariner? Posted by Customer
    A:
Most electric rear view mirrors use two motors for movement - one for up-down adjustments and one for left-right adjustments. The control switch sends voltage to the left or right mirror. With the ignition ON but engine OFF, roll down windows and operate the mirror control switch through all functions for both mirrors. Listen for motor sounds. If motors run but glass doesn't move, there's a problem with the drive mechanism. If mirrors don't operate and no sound is heard, check the fuse. If fuse is OK, have the switch continuity checked. Test ground connections. If mirror still doesn't work, check wires for voltage. If no voltage, check circuit for opens and shorts. If there's voltage, test mirror off the vehicle. Replace if it fails.

    Q:
How do you remove and install a front door mirror on Ford Escape? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the front door trim panel. Remove the front door interior sail panel. Pry the front door interior sail panel with a panel tool or flat-bladed screwdriver and separate It from the door. Disconnect the speaker electrical connector, if equipped. Disconnect the electrical connector from the mirror. Disconnect the power mirror electrical connector. Remove the three mirror retaining bolts and detach the mirror from the vehicle. Remove the mirror retaining bolls. Installation is the reverse of removal. Disconnect the auto-dimmer electrical connector, if equipped. Remove the compass module if so equipped. Pry the tension clip at the base of the mirror stalk with a screwdriver. Gently pry under the mirror to aid in sliding it upward. Push the screwdriver out, using leverage to release the mirror from the bracket. To install the mirror, insert the mirror into the bracket, pushing downward until the mirror is secured. If the mount plate itself has come off the windshield, adhesive kits are available at auto parts stores to re-secure it. Follow the instructions included with the kit.
