Mercury YF1Z-6256-AA Sprocket - Camshaft

Do not rely on the camshaft alignment tool to hold the camshafts while tightening the camshaft sprocket bolts, as tool and camshaft damage may occur.

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. 2. Drain the cooling system and engine oil. 3. Remove the engine as described in Part F. Remove the oil pan. 4. Replace the oil filter. 5. Remove the drivebelt. 6. Remove the timing chain cover. 7. Turn the crankshaft until the timing marks are aligned. 8. Remove the camshaft sprocket Torx bolt and the crankshaft sprocket key. Also remove the timing chain tensioner. 9. Remove the sprockets together with the chain. Do not disturb the crankshaft or camshaft while the timing chain and sprockets are removed. 10. If necessary, remove the Torx bolts that secure the chain guide and remove it from the block.

Check the timing chain and sprockets. Replace as a set if necessary.

Drape the jackshaft chain over the jackshaft sprocket and engage the chain onto the crankshaft sprocket. Install the jackshaft sprocket onto the jackshaft and tighten the jackshaft sprocket bolt to the torque.

Remove the camshaft alignment tool (if installed).

Place the sprockets in the chain with their timing marks aligned. Install the sprockets and chain together on the crankshaft and camshaft.

Disconnect the negative cable at the battery.
