    Q:
How do you properly install and adjust a door latch striker on Mercury Lynx? Posted by Customer
    A:
Use vise grip pliers to unscrew the door latch striker stud from the door jamb. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure with the following additions: the door latch striker can be adjusted vertically and laterally as well as fore-and-aft, but it should not be used to compensate for door misalignment. The door latch striker can be shimmed to obtain the correct clearance between the latch and the striker. To check the clearance between the latch jamb and the striker area, spread a layer of dark grease on the striker. Open and close the door several times and note the pattern of the grease. Move the door striker assembly laterally to provide a flush fit at the door and pillar or at the quarter panel, and tighten the door latch striker after adjustment is complete.

    Q:
How do you remove and install the door latch striker on Ford Explorer? Posted by Customer
    A:
If you want to replace or otherwise deal with the door latch striker, then one thing you need to do is, unscrew the negative battery cable. Subsequently, using a Torx bit, then withdraw the door latch striker stud from the door jamb, while the process of installation is the exact opposite of that and the necessary corrections can also be done at the same time. This striker can be moved in the vertical plane as well as in the lateral, and forward and athwart planes, but it should not be used as a corrective measure for improperly fitting doors. Shimming may be needed in order to adjust the distances to the required measure-between the latch and striker no more than one shim can be installed on one door. It is exercised by applying dark grease on the striker before closing the door; then again unlocking the door then closing and opening the door several times to see the pattern left on the grease. To achieve the required optimal fit of the door striker assembly to the door and either the pillar or quarter panel, loosen the balance of the bolts and then use a lateral movement of the door striker assembly to achieve the correct position before finally tightening the existing bolts where the door latch striker is to be attached.
