    A:

    Q:
How do you remove and install the ignition switch and key lock cylinder on Ford Mustang? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the ' minus' end of the cable from the battery. Disconnect lower steering column cover. To unlock the reduction gears from the lock cylinder housing, press on the two release tab and pull the ignition switch out. Pull out the electrical connector by operating the release tab from the ignition switch. It is the process where by the components that had been assembled are disassembled. Pull out the Passive Anti-Theft System transceiver by pulling the head of the screw backward on the retaining tabs located in the lugs on the lock cylinder housing. Depress the lock button on the lower left of the Ignition Lock Cylinder and insert the ignition key into the Ignition Lock Cylinder. By rotating the ignition key you will bring the ignition to the RUN position. To disarm the Ignition Lock Cylinder, push the safety flat blade into the hole that is on the bottom of the Ignition Lock Cylinder, this will release the retaining tab and pull out the lock cylinder. Removal on the other hand is just the opposite of installation.

    Q:
How to replace the Ignition Lock Cylinder and Ignition Switch on Ford Taurus? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the ignition lock cylinder, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and remove the steering column covers. Insert the key and turn it to the ACC position, then use a small round tool to depress the release pin and pull the ignition lock cylinder out. For the ignition switch on 2009 and earlier models, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, remove the steering column covers, disconnect the electrical connection, release the two locking tabs, and pull the switch away from the steering column, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2010 and later models, remove the center console trim panel, take out the ignition switch housing bolts, pull the housing out of the dash, disconnect the electrical connector, depress the tabs on the sides of the switch to remove it from the housing, and reinstall in reverse order. If changing keys or the tumbler, reprogramming is necessary for the vehicle to start. Ensure the switch snaps into place during installation. The push button start system operates using electronic modules instead of a lock cylinder and key, with the Remote Function Actuator utilizing battery voltage to mimic the function of a conventional key. The start/stop button sends a momentary signal to the module, which checks various inputs before authorizing the car to start using the wireless Intelligent Access key fob signal. Testing and repairs for this system are typically beyond the capabilities of a home garage, so professional assistance is recommended.

    Q:
How do you remove and install the key lock cylinder and ignition switch on Lincoln MKX? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the instrument cluster upper and lower trim panels. Using a small screwdriver, detach the tabs securing the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) transceiver to the ignition lock cylinder housing, then pull the transceiver off the housing and disconnect the electrical connector. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn it to the ACC position. Insert an awl or suitable tool into the hole in the underside of the ignition lock cylinder, then depress the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab and remove the ignition lock cylinder. To install the ignition lock cylinder, insert it into the lock cylinder housing and push it in until it clicks into place. Verify that the ignition switch operates correctly in the OFF, ACC, RUN, and START positions, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2014 and earlier models, do not remove the ignition switch and the ignition lock cylinder at the same time to avoid damaging the steering column. Remove the fasteners securing the ignition lock cylinder housing, disconnect the electrical connector for the PATS transceiver, and disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch. Depress the release tabs to detach the ignition switch from the ignition lock cylinder, ensuring that it snaps into place during installation, which is otherwise the reverse of removal. For 2015 and later keyless entry models, carefully pry out the left-side center air register from the instrument panel using a trim tool, disconnect the electrical connector from the push start ignition switch, and from the back side of the instrument panel, depress the two retaining tabs on the switch then push the ignition switch button out of the instrument panel.

    Q:
How do you check the ignition switch for continuity in each of the indicated positions on Ford Expedition? Posted by Customer
    A:
The ignition switch is located below the steering column behind the knee bolster and must be removed for checking. Using an ohmmeter or self-powered test light along with the provided diagrams, check for continuity between the indicated switch terminals in each of the specified positions. If continuity is not as required, the switch should be replaced. To replace the switch, first disconnect the negative battery cable followed by the positive battery cable and wait two minutes. Turn the ignition key lock cylinder to the Run position, then remove the center trim panel for 2002 and earlier models along with the driver side knee bolster. Unplug the ignition switch electrical connector and remove the retaining screws; on some later models, a tab retains the switch, which must be depressed to remove it. Disengage the ignition switch from the actuator pin and take it out of the vehicle. Ensure the actuator pin slot in the new ignition switch is in the Run position, as a new replacement switch will be set in this position. Position the new switch on the actuator pin and install the retaining screws, adjusting the switch as necessary to align the screw holes. Finally, the installation process is the reverse of removal, and proper operation of the ignition switch should be checked in the lock, start, and accessory positions.

For 2004 through 2008 models, remove the multi-function switch, disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch by depressing the release tab and pulling out the connector, and then remove the ignition switch by depressing the release tabs on the top and bottom and pulling it out to the left. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2009 and 2010 models, position the steering column in the full-down position if equipped with manual tilt steering wheels, remove the steering wheel, detach the wiring harness retainers from the steering column, disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition switch, multifunction switch, clockspring, Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS), ignition key, and interlock actuator if equipped, remove the three bolts and multifunction switch carrier if applicable, remove the ignition switch mounting screw, and then remove the switch. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2011 and later models, disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch, detach the ignition switch from the steering column by depressing the release tabs and pulling it out, and installation is the reverse of removal. To remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder, first remove the steering wheel and steering column covers, then remove the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) transceiver by depressing the release tab, pulling off the electrical connector, unscrewing the bolt, and removing the transceiver. Insert the ignition key into the Ignition Lock Cylinder, turning it to the ON position for 2004 through 2008 models or to the ACC position for 2009 and later models. Insert an awl or small screwdriver into the hole on the underside of the Ignition Lock Cylinder, depress the retaining tab, and remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder.
