Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal first, then disconnect the cable from the positive battery terminal. Remove the battery hold-down clamp and lift out the battery, being careful as it is heavy. Battery straps and handlers are available at most auto parts stores for reasonable prices, making it easier to remove and carry the battery. If replacing the battery, ensure the new one is identical in dimensions, amperage rating, cold cranking rating, etc. If the old battery had a heat shield, transfer it to the new battery. If necessary for access to other components, remove the battery tray. If needed, also remove the air cleaner housing to access the battery tray. Disconnect any electrical harness or connectors from the battery tray, then remove the battery tray mounting bolts or nuts and take the battery tray out of the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal, connecting the positive cable first and the negative cable last.
