Ford Bronco Clutch Master Cylinder

In Ford Bronco automobiles there is the Clutch Master Cylinder, which is responsible for producing the hydraulic pressure needed to pull the clutch in manual transmission models. When the driver pulls the clutch pedal, then the Clutch Master Cylinder puts pressure on the hydraulic fluid into the slave cylinder which results to separation of clutch and the flywheel. It is playing a critical role in transmission performance especially in aspects concerning gear shift changes. The years have seen many different styles of Clutch Master Cylinder used in the Ford Bronco vehicles where the primary difference has been with respect to the designs of the hydraulic systems. Some of the problems that are associated with Clutch Master Cylinder include the following: With time it may start developing some fluid leakage that may cause some soft feel in the pedal or some challenges in trying to change gears. Sustaining the integrity of Clutch Master Cylinder is important since any problems in this part will greatly affect the handle and control of the vehicle.

Ford Bronco Clutch Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to inspect, remove, and install the clutch master cylinder on Ford Bronco?
A: The pushrod for the clutch master cylinder can be found on the right side of the pedal support assembly under the dash from the inside the cab. Lift the dust boot of the master cylinder and squeeze and release to see trapped fluid since some dust boot wetting is okay. Any presence of leakage signals the need for replacement of the slave cylinder of even the whole system. For the year 1987 and before, clutch master cylinder has to be replaced and comes as a complete set together with the clutch slave cylinder and hydraulic line since individual pieces are not produced. On later 1988 models, gently pop the pushrod and retainer bushing off the end of the cross shaft lever pin, remove the interlock switch and drain the reservoir just far enough down to put some shop rags down in the master cylinder area to catch any leaking fluid. Sever the hydraulic line from the master cylinder so that the line and outlet can be covered to avoid debris and as much loss of fluid as possible. If you would like to remove the clutch master cylinder thenuntwist the two nuts fixing the clutch master cylinder to thewall then pull out the master cylinder. Removal is done in reverse order of installation and after installation of the system it should be bled with care to check on its performance.
