  • Q: How do you replace a door handle and lock cylinder on Ford Bronco?
    A: To change the door handle you have to pull out the inner door trim panel and the watershield that is mounted on the door from inside. Remove the latch actuator rod from the door handle assembly; then, using a socket and a small ratchet, get rid of the nut and screw which holds the door handle assembly. Remove the door handle assembly with its pads if used. If adjusting the handle, transfer the pads and the actuator rod clip on to the new assembly. Similarly, removal is done in reverse order, hence testing the handle assembly before reassembling by fixing the watershield and the panel. For the lock cylinder, with the window up, remove the inner door trim panel and the watershield. Remove the lock actuating rod from the cylinder, and the retaining received then the lock cylinder can be slid out from the outer perimeter of the door. This is accomplished in reverse and some caution is used to make certain that the watershield is fitted tightly without being marred in any way; this is because a watertight fit is necessary to prevent the seepage of water and consequent rusting; it is likely that reinstitution of the lip of the seal might require re-gluing with contact cement.
