Ford Bronco II Vehicle Speed Sensor

Older Ford Bronco II models have a Vehicle Speed Sensor that is used for speed measurement and wheel revolutions transmitting information to computerized units controlling engines' power and ABS units. These are the Vehicle Speed Sensor or VSS and the Wheel Speed Sensors or WSS; these sensors use Ferromagnetic toothed reluctor rings and either passive or active sensor technology to create accurate speed readings. Over the years, sensor manufacturing has experienced an enhancement in quality, steady signal capturing, and the capacity to work well in unsuitable environments thus enhancing automotive systems. Various kinds of sensors in use include Hall effect sensors as well as magnetoresistive sensors that have helped in offering reliable speed measurements especially for Ford Bronco II vehicles improving on the general drive feel as well as safety features.

Ford Bronco II Vehicle Speed Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to test and replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on Ford Bronco II?
A: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is called a magnetic pick-up that transfers information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The transmission rotates while the PCM calculates vehicle speed. VSS can be checked by switching off the ignition and then disconnecting the wiring harness from it. Measure the resistance between sensor terminals with a DVOM. If the resistance measures 190-250 ohms, the sensor is fine. VSS is halfway down on the right side of transmission. In order to remove and install it, brake parking, block rear wheels, and lift the front of the vehicle with jackstands. From beneath the vehicle, detach the wire harness from VSS. Get hold of the hold-down bolt and then pull out VSS. In case one is replaced with a new one, transfer gear to the new sensor.
