How Should You Inspect and Replace Fuses, Fusible Links, and Circuit Breakers on Ford Explorer Sport Trac?

There are fuses, cartridge-type fusible links, and circuit breakers to protect the electrical circuits; the two fuse panels are found in each of the power distribution boxes, both in the engine room and inside the car. Fuse panels contain miniaturized fuses whose replacement requires the use of fingers and thumbs; if an electrical component fails it is best to check the fuse as part of the diagnosis using a test light to check power at the 'tip' of the terminal; a fused circuit can be seen with the naked eye. Each of the fuses operates one or more circuits and the interior of the fuse panel contains the fuses, a puller tool for the fuses and additional fuses with an identification chart. The engine compartment fuse panel can be released by pressing the tab that is above the emblem to pull it up and the foot well fuse panel in earlier models drops down, but in the later models this requires the removal of the plastic cover. One should not replace a blown fuse with another type of fuse because of each circuit's protection requirements it is risky to use a fuse with the different amperage value; the amperage value is always indicated molded in the fuse body where by the color code indicates the different amperages. Before replacing a fuse, it is recommended that all electrical components and the ignition switch should be turned off and never should a fuse be replaced with metal or foil to prevent aggravation of the electrical system damage. In case a replacement fuse blows almost immediately, don't replace it again until the root cause which most of the time is a short circuit arising from a compromised wire is fixed.

A: There are fuses, cartridge-type fusible links, and circuit breakers to protect the electrical circuits; the two fuse panels are found in each of the power distribution boxes, both in the engine room and inside the car. Fuse panels contain miniaturized fuses whose replacement requires the use of fingers and thumbs; if an electrical component fails it is best to check the fuse as part of the diagnosis using a test light to check power at the 'tip' of the terminal; a fused circuit can be seen with the naked eye. Each of the fuses operates one or more circuits and the interior of the fuse panel contains the fuses, a puller tool for the fuses and additional fuses with an identification chart. The engine compartment fuse panel can be released by pressing the tab that is above the emblem to pull it up and the foot well fuse panel in earlier models drops down, but in the later models this requires the removal of the plastic cover. One should not replace a blown fuse with another type of fuse because of each circuit's protection requirements it is risky to use a fuse with the different amperage value; the amperage value is always indicated molded in the fuse body where by the color code indicates the different amperages. Before replacing a fuse, it is recommended that all electrical components and the ignition switch should be turned off and never should a fuse be replaced with metal or foil to prevent aggravation of the electrical system damage. In case a replacement fuse blows almost immediately, don't replace it again until the root cause which most of the time is a short circuit arising from a compromised wire is fixed.
