Ford Fusion A/C Compressor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How should the removal of the air conditioning Compressor on Ford Fusion?
A: Removal of the air conditioning system should be done by a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning shop. Start by loosening the right front wheel lug nuts, raising the vehicle, and securing it on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel, the right front fender splash shield, and the splash shield under the radiator. The drivebelt should be removed next. On 1.5L models, the alternator should also be removed. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor clutch field coil and remove the bolt securing the refrigerant pipes to the compressor. Disconnect the compressor inlet and outlet line manifold from the compressor and discard the old O-rings. On 2009 and earlier four-cylinder engines, remove the mounting bolts for the AIR pump and tie the pump out of the way. On 2.0L models, remove the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) tube below the compressor. On 2013 and later four-cylinder engines, remove the compressor mounting bolts/nut, remove the stud and remove the compressor. Disconnect the compressor inlet and outlet line manifold from the compressor, remove the bolt securing the refrigerant pipes to the compressor, and discard the old O-rings. Finally, remove the compressor mounting bolts and the compressor itself. For installation, if a new compressor is being installed, follow the directions that came with the compressor regarding the draining of excess oil prior to installation. The clutch may have to be transferred from the original to the new compressor. Before reconnecting the inlet and outlet lines to the compressor, replace all manifold O-rings and lubricate them with refrigerant oil. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Have the system evacuated, recharged and leak-tested by the shop that discharged it.
