Lincoln Navigator Rocker Arm

The Rocker Arm in Lincoln Navigator automobiles is an extremely critical component of the internal combustion engine's valvetrain system since it acts as a medium through which the mechanical movement coming from the pushrod is translated into a recognizable motion for both the intake and the exhaust valves. Usually made from stamped steel or aluminum, the Rocker Arm translates the back-and-forth percussive movement of the pushrod into the kindof pushing force needed to open the valves. Aluminium is used in high-RPM applications for its lightweight characteristics while cast iron or forged carbon steel is used in the form of diesel engines. Different types of Rocker Arms, for instance, roller rockers, utilize needle bearings in order to decrease friction and use which increases the efficiency of the unit as compared to its counterparts. The Rocker Arm of the Lincoln Navigator usually has a rocker ratio of between 1.5:1 to 1.8:1 because this increase the camshaft lift and thus the performance of the engine. There are also enhanced fulcrum bearings used in stress and durability of high RPM engines thus the Lincoln Navigator performance is optimal.

Lincoln Navigator Rocker Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What are the steps involved in the removal, inspection, and installation of the rocker arms and pushrods in V6 engine on Lincoln Navigator?
A: Detach the valve cover(s) from the cylinder head(s). Starting at the front of one cylinder head, remove the rocker arm fulcrum bolts, which may not need to be completely removed in all cases; loosen them several turns to see if the rocker arms can be pivoted out of the way for pushrod removal. Store the bolts separately in marked containers to ensure they are reinstalled in their original locations. If only the pushrods are being removed, loosen each bolt just enough to allow the rocker arms to be rotated to the side for pushrod extraction. Lift off the rocker arms and fulcrums, storing them in marked containers with the bolts for proper reinstallation. Remove the pushrods and store them separately to avoid mixing during installation, using a perforated cardboard box for organization and labeling the front of the engine. Check each rocker arm for wear, cracks, and other damage, particularly at the contact points with the pushrods and valve stems. Ensure the hole at the pushrod end of each rocker arm is clear. Inspect the pivot area and fulcrum for wear, cracks, and galling; replace any worn or damaged rocker arms and fulcrums with new ones. Examine the pushrods for cracks and excessive wear at the ends, rolling each across a piece of plate glass to check for bending. Lubricate the lower end of each pushrod with clean engine oil or moly-base grease and install them in their original locations, ensuring each pushrod seats completely in the lifter. Apply moly-base grease to the ends of the valve stems and the upper ends of the pushrods before positioning the rocker arms and fulcrums. Grease the fulcrums to protect the mating surfaces prior to engine oil pressure buildup, then set the rocker arms and guides in place, installing the fulcrums and bolts, and tightening the rocker arm bolts to specifications. Finally, install the valve covers, completing the installation in reverse order of removal.
