Q: How to remove and replace the upper control arm on a Lincoln Town Car?
A: Remove the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and remove the wheel. Remove the nut, washer, and bushing from the Shock Absorber. Use a floor jack under the lower control arm and loosen the stud in the steering knuckle with a hammer. If needed, use a balljoint stud separator. Remove the nut from the upper balljoint stud and the upper control arm pivot shaft bolts. Remove the upper control arm assembly. Inspect the control arm bushings for damage. If damaged, replace at an automotive shop. Reinstall the upper control arm pivot shaft and the two attaching bolts. Insert the upper balljoint stud into the steering knuckle and install the nut or pinch bolt. On pre-1992 models, align the cotter pin hole with the nut slots and install a new cotter pin. Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts. Lower the vehicle and have the alignment adjusted at a shop.
Q: How to remove and install lower Control Arm for Lincoln Town Car?
A: To remove the front coil spring, raise the vehicle and remove the wheel, Shock Absorber, stabilizer bar, and coil spring. The lower control arm is disconnected from the steering knuckle by removing the ball joint stud nut and cotter pin. For installation, the control arm is raised, the spring is guided into position, and the control arm pivot bolts and nuts are installed.
