Mercury Cougar Fuel Filter

To understand its application, functionality and properties of the Fuel Filter in Mercury Cougar, one can state the following A fuel filter is an important part of a vehicle's fuel system that prevents dirt, rust and water, which negatively impact the performance of vehicle's components, from entering the engine. Usually installed close to the fuel tank and before the engine, this component uses cartridges of pleated filter paper to trap undesirable substances. Full maintenance is key in as much as Bidgolre and Abdul-Nour found out that clogging of the fuel system hinders proper flow of the fuel and causes dampening of the engine. The same is also true for Diesel engines, where there are other filters specially designed to remove and discharge water avoiding its damage to the fuel system. Thus, Fuel Filters are crucial for the longevity of a Mercury Cougar automobile and its engine, as Fuel Filters keep only clean fuel in the engine.

We provide a wide range of Mercury Cougar Fuel Filter at the best prices possible. If you need Mercury Cougar Fuel Filter, you can shop with confidence on our website. All our OEM parts come with a manufacturer's warranty and are delivered to your door step with a fast delivery service.

Mercury Cougar Fuel Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the fuel filter on a Mercury Cougar?
A: The fuel filter is located under the vehicle on the outside of the right frame rail. To remove it, take out the two retaining bolts, loosen the screw clamp and remove the filter cover. Inspect the hose fittings at both ends of the filter to see if they're clean. If more than a light coating of dust is present, clean the fittings before proceeding. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Removal of the hairpin clip from each fitting is a two-stage procedure. First, spread the two clip legs apart about 1/8-inch to disengage them, then push in on them. Pull on the other end of the clip to detach it from the fitting. If the new filter doesn't include new clips, don't use any tools or you may damage the plastic clips, which will have to be reused. Use your fingers only. Once both hairpin clips are released, grasp the fuel hoses, one at a time, and pull them straight off the filter. Be prepared for fuel spillage. After the hoses have been detached, check the clips for damage and distortion. If they were damaged in any way during removal, new ones must be used when the hoses are reattached to the new filter. Note which way the arrow on the filter is pointing- the new filter must be installed the same way. Install the new filter with the arrow pointing the right direction. Carefully push each hose onto the filter until it's seated against the collar on the fitting, then install the hairpin clips. The triangular shaped side of each clip must point away from the filter. Make sure the clips are securely attached to the hose fittings - if they come off, the hoses could back off the filter and a fire could result! Place the filter in the bracket and secure it with the screw clamp. Place the bracket and filter assembly in position and install the retaining bolts. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
