How do you check and replace a transmission mount on Mercury Grand Marquis?

Place a large screwdriver or prybar between the transmission extension housing and the crossmember with the slender edge of this tool upward and pry the transmission a bit upward. To check the transmission mount it's necessary to insert a thin screwdriver between the crossmember and the mount and try to slide it-there should be almost no way the screwdriver would slide. If there is a large amount of movement remove the mount by undoing the nuts which secure the mount to the crossmember, then undoing the bolts which fasten the mount to the transmission extension housing. After that, lift the transmission with a jack just a little and then unbolt the mount. For installation, the reverse of this procedure should be taken; however, nuts and bolts should be tightened before everything else.
