Q: How to replace the front cable on Mercury Grand Marquis?
A: To replace the front cable for 1988 and 1989 models, raise the vehicle, release the parking brake, loosen the adjusting nut, disconnect the cable from the adjuster bracket, remove the clip retaining the cable to the body, disconnect the cable from the pedal assembly and remove it through the floor plan. To install it, insert it through holes in floor pans, attach it to control assembly inside vehicle, and fasten to the adjuster bracket under the vehicle. The intermediate cable can be removed by removing the cable adjusting nut, disconnecting the ends of cables, removing the cable/adjuster bracket assembly, installing the equalizer assembly onto pin, and connecting ends of the cables before reinstalling the adjusting nut. For transverse cables remove the adjuster nut on cable then disconnect both ends of the cable, take off the cable reinstall clips or brackets for attaching, reconnect both ends of the cable and finally install adjuster nut again.
