Q: How to remove and reinstall an air conditioning condenser on Mercury Mountaineer?
A: Have the air conditioning system discharged by a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning shop before proceeding. Remove the air filter housing. Remove the Radiator upper air deflector(on 2002 through 2004 models). Remove the inner air deflector. Disconnect the refrigerant inlet and outlet lines from the condenser. On vehicles equipped with rear air conditioning, disconnect the spring-lock coupling on the rear air conditioning outlet line. Remove the accumulator bracket bolts and position the accumulator with the air conditioning lines to the side. Remove the left and right radiator brackets. Remove the left and right condenser core brackets. Carefully move the radiator forward and remove the condenser. If you're going to reinstall the same condenser, store it with the line fittings facing up to prevent oil from draining out. Remove the side air deflectors from the condenser. If you're going to install a new condenser, pour one ounce of refrigerant oil of the correct type into it before installation. Before reconnecting the refrigerant lines to the condenser, be sure to coat a pair of new O-rings with refrigerant oil, install them in the refrigerant line fittings and tighten the condenser inlet and outlet nuts to the torque. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged.
