    Remove the cotter pin from the balljoint stud. Loosen the castle nut on the stud. Use sharp raps on the steering knuckle near the stud to release pressure and loosen the stud. Remove the balljoint stud nut. Lower the control arm by removing its mounting bolts.

    Position a floor jack under the lower control arm. Remove the pinch bolt and nut retaining the upper balljoint stud to the steering knuckle. Use a prybar to spread the slot in the knuckle and separate the balljoint stud. Remove the upper control arm retaining bolts and the upper control arm assembly.

    Remove the cotter pin from the upper balljoint stud and loosen the stud nut slightly. Place a floor jack under the lower control arm and raise it slightly. Tap the steering knuckle near the upper balljoint stud with a hammer to loosen it. Use a balljoint stud separator if needed (note that this may damage the balljoint boot). Remove the nut from the upper balljoint stud and the upper control arm pivot shaft attaching bolts. Remove the upper control arm and pivot shaft as an assembly.
