    Q:
How to remove and inspect of the clutch release bearing on 1993-2011 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove and inspect the transmission, first, detach it from the vehicle. Inside the clutch housing, twist the release bearing and carrier assembly until resistance is felt, then continue pushing the assembly and preload spring down to detach the release bearing from the release cylinder. For models from 1997 onward, remove the retaining ring to separate the release bearing from the release cylinder, ensuring to push against spring pressure during this process. To check the clutch release bearing, hold the hub of the bearing and rotate the outer portion while applying pressure; if it does not turn smoothly or is noisy, replace it. Clean the bearing with a rag and inspect for damage, wear, or cracks, avoiding immersion in solvent as it is sealed for life. For installation, apply a light coat of high-temperature lithium-based grease to the face of the release bearing where it contacts the pressure plate diaphragm fingers, and lubricate the inner bore of the bearing and bearing carrier with lithium-based grease, avoiding petroleum-based grease. Finally, push the release bearing and carrier onto the slave cylinder until it is fully seated, and then reinstall the transmission.

    Q:
How to check and replace Clutch Disc,Pressure Plate,Release Bearing on Ford Explorer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Access to clutch components is obtained by removing the transmission while the engine is left in place. In case of an engine overhaul, it is advisable to inspect and repair or replace the clutch. It is good practice to replace both the engine and transmission's clutch components during removal. The transmission, however, must be removed from the vehicle since the engine has to be supported down on a frame. A clutch alignment tool is used for supporting the clutch disc that is being lifted out of its position. Then check the flywheel and pressure plate for alignment marks and scribe them if necessary. After that, remove the pressure plate in association with a clutch disc. The flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch disc lining and pressure plate are to be checked for any signs of wear or damage. Also, ensure release bearing condition and if necessary replace it with one in good condition. Clean up the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces prior to installation. Complete crisscrossing of positioning bolts tightens both the clutch disc and pressure plate accordingly at once placing them correctly onto a flywheel face.

    Q:
What should you do to check the condition of the clutch release bearing for the 2002 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Hold the center of the bearing and rotate the outer portion while applying pressure. If the bearing doesn't turn smoothly or is noisy, replace it with a new one. Wipe the bearing with a clean rag and inspect it for damage, wear, and cracks. Do not immerse the bearing in solvent, as it is sealed for life and doing so would ruin it.

    Q:
What should be done within the clutch housing for the 1986 Ford Bronco? Posted by Customer
    A:
Twist the release bearing and carrier assembly until resistance is felt. Continue to turn the assembly further and the preload spring will push the release bearing off the slave cylinder.

    Q:
What should you do if the release bearing travel measurement is less than specified for a concentric slave cylinder for the 1984 Ford Bronco? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the results are less than specified, several possibilities exist, including low fluid level, a leaking slave cylinder, leaking clutch master cylinder, misadjusted clutch or pedal, air in the system, or a combination of these items. Refer to the appropriate section in this Chapter for proper resolution of the problem.
