A catalytic converter (or catalyst) is an emission control device in the exhaust system that reduces certain pollutants in the exhaust gas stream. Remove the passenger's side inner fender splash shield and the engine drive belt.

Be careful not to scratch or gouge the gasket surface when removing gasket material, as any damage may cause leaks after reassembly.

Remove the exhaust manifold and the gasket, then remove and discard the mounting studs.

Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield by taking out the heat shield mounting bolts.
