    Q:
How do I remove the timing chain cover on Lincoln Town Car Overhead valve (OHV)engines? Posted by Customer
    A:
To take off the Timing Cover, start by doing all of the water pump removal procedures up to actually removing the pump. Drain oil from the engine, remove the oil filter, disconnect and cap off fuel inlet hose at fuel pump outlet, and remove crankshaft vibration damper. On 7.5L (460 cid) engine slide the crankshaft sleeve off and remove the left-over Timing Cover-to-block bolts. Remove all accessory brackets that are attached to Timing Cover. From beneath the vehicle, cut flush with a razor knife oil pan gasket on its face against an engine block then unbolt oil pan-to-Timing Cover bolts. Take out remaining bolts and lightly tap Timing Cover loose using a soft-faced hammer. For installation purposes remove circular rubber seal from front of oil pan replace it with rag such as shop one in oil pan opening. Prepare all surfaces, cut two sections from new oil pan gasket apply them to oil pan using gasket contact adhesive. Use ATV sealant for sealing between oil pan and block joints while installing circular rubber seal in cutout on oil pan bottom surface. Lubricate timing chain and crankshaft front oil seal lips; apply ATV sealant to cover gasket then position it on engine. Apply ATV sealant to where Oil Pan, Block and Timing Cover meet each other. Use Teflon pipe sealant for threads' application before installing bolts so that gaskets/seals remain intact within their respective places. While aligning cover with either damper or sleeve tighten bolts finally tightening cover-to-block bolts again; this is after tightening them as necessary after aligning them with either damper or sleeve which may be necessary for proper torque application. Remove vibration damper; reinstall remaining parts in reverse order; add engine coolant & motor-oil then operate engine checking for leakage.
