    How do you remove and install the air cleaner top plate and air filter element on Ford Fairmont? Posted by Customer
    A:
    Remove the wing nut(s) attaching the air cleaner top plate to the air cleaner housing. Then, remove the air cleaner top and take out the Air Filter. Installation is the reverse of removal. On 2.3L air cleaners, recheck the torque on the first wing nut after tightening the second one.

    Disconnect the vacuum hose and outlet tube from the air cleaner cover. Remove the cover retaining screws and lift the cover off. Remove the filter. Wipe the inside of the air cleaner housing with a clean cloth. Place the new air filter in the housing. If the filter is marked TOP, be sure the marked side faces up. Reinstall the cover and retaining screws. Don't overtighten the screws! Reconnect the vacuum hose and outlet tube.
