    To remove the rack and pinion, disconnect the battery cable, loosen lug nuts, raise the vehicle, remove front wheels, separate tie-rod ends, disconnect power steering lines, remove stabilizer bar, unhook steering shaft, take off heat shield and pressure line retainers and drop rack and pinion from the subframe. To return the device to its position; use new fasteners, rack and pinion turn tube heat wrap, and sealing washers. While hooking up the column shaft of a steering system align match marks, tighten banjo bolt, fill the power steering reservoir, bleed hydraulic system, and check front-end alignment.

    The steps to remove the steering gear are as follows: 1. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts. 2. Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. 3. Remove both front wheels. 4. Detach the tie-rod ends from the steering knuckles. 5. Place a drain pan under the steering gear and detach the power steering pressure and return lines, capping the ends to prevent excessive fluid loss and contamination. 6. Remove the stabilizer bar. 7. Index mark the steering shaft to the steering gear input shaft, then disconnect the steering shaft from the steering gear input shaft. 8. Remove the heat shield and the pressure line retainers from the steering gear. 9. Remove the mounting bolts and detach the steering gear from the subframe.
