    Q:
Should engine mounts be replaced immediately if they are broken or deteriorated in V6 engine on Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine mounts seldom require attention, but broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately to prevent damage or wear to driveline components. To check the mounts, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands and position a jack under the engine oil pan with a large wood block in between. Carefully raise the engine just enough to relieve the weight from the mounts, then inspect them for cracks, hardened rubber, or separation from the metal plates, applying rubber preservative to slow deterioration. Check for any relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame using a large screwdriver or pry bar; if movement is noted, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners. For replacement, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and detach the air cleaner duct. Support the engine from above with an engine support fixture or overhead crane, taking a slight amount of weight off the engine. Remove the engine mount throughbolts and raise the engine high enough to clear the brackets without forcing it too high. Unbolt the mount from the engine block and remove it from the vehicle, replacing self-locking nuts and bolts with new ones whenever disassembled. Before assembly, clean the engine block holes of any hardened residual adhesive. Attach the new mount to the engine block, install the bolts and stud/nuts securely, lower the engine into place, and install the through bolts, tightening them to specifications. Finally, reinstall all parts that were removed to access the mounts.

    Q:
How do you check and replace the transmission mount on Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the vehicle is equipped with air suspension, turn off the air suspension system using the switch located in the area of the right kick panel. Insert a large screwdriver or pry bar into the space between the transmission and the crossmember to pry the transmission up slightly. To check the transmission mount, use a prybar or large screwdriver to lever the transmission up and down; if it moves easily, inspect the rubber insulator part of the mount for tears or cracks, indicating it must be replaced. The transmission should not move much away from the insulator, and any separation of the rubber signifies a worn mount. Remove the nuts attaching the mount to the crossmember, then raise the transmission slightly with a jack and remove the bolts attaching the mount to the transmission. Use a transmission jack or floor jack to lift the transmission just enough to slip the old mount out from between the transmission and the crossmember, then remove the mount. Installation follows the reverse of the removal procedure, ensuring that the nuts and bolts are tightened securely. Finally, remove the jackstands and lower the vehicle, then turn on the switch for the air suspension system if applicable.

    Q:
How should engine mounts be checked and replaced in V8 engine on Ford Expedition? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine mounts seldom require attention, but broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately to prevent damage or wear on driveline components. To check the mounts, the engine must be raised slightly to remove the weight from them. Begin by raising the vehicle and securely supporting it on jackstands, then position a jack under the engine oil pan with a large wood block between the jack head and the oil pan. Carefully raise the engine just enough to relieve the weight on the mounts. Inspect the mounts for cracked, hardened rubber or separation from the metal plates, and check for relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame using a large screwdriver or pry bar. If movement is noted, lower the engine and lighten the mount fasteners. Applying rubber preservative can help slow deterioration. For replacement, disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the engine cooling fan assembly and shroud, and attach an engine support fixture to the engine lifting eyes adjacent to the exhaust manifolds. Raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, take some weight off the engine mounts with the support fixture, and then remove the engine mount through-bolts. Gradually raise the engine while watching for interference with any components, and when raised about two inches, remove the bolts retaining the mount to the engine block. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

    Q:
How do you check and replace a transmission mount on Ford F-150? Posted by Customer
    A:
Insert a large screwdriver or prybar into the space between the transmission and the crossmember and try to pry the transmission up to check the transmission mount; if the transmission is easily moved, closely examine the rubber insulator part of the mount for tears or cracks, indicating it must be replaced. If there is any separation of the rubber, the mount is worn out. Remove the nuts attaching the mount to the crossmember, then raise the transmission with a floor jack until the mount studs clear the crossmember, and remove the bolts attaching the mount to the transmission. After removing the mount, installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, ensuring to tighten the nuts and bolts to the specified torque.
